Garden Artist-Susan Regert

 Some of you may already be enjoying the artistic creations of Susan Regert. She has been a prolific artist for over the last 30 years. Born and raised on a small farm in Merced, the heart of California, she has drawn on her surroundings as inspiration for both her watercolors and garden sculptures. Years of raising Suffolk sheep, and then managing the family cattle business, has given her insight into the character of animals and their surroundings, which have been the subjects for many of her paintings. She opened Regert's Gallery in 1986 and ten years later in 1996 started "Z" Garden Party. Her goal was to design a series of garden art which would appeal to both the whimsical and the serious collector. Susan prefers a realistic approach in both her paintings and sculptures. Her collection of garden pieces are cut by a plasma cutter from 14 gauge or stronger steel. They are then sent to the greenhouse to start the rusting process. The pieces then develop a rusted patina, which continues to change as they weather outside. She feels the natural rust is an understated look for the garden and lets the design be the focus. "Z" Garden Party offers a diverse collection from 6 inch Humming Birds to 7 feet tall Sunflowers. Susan has established herself as a respected and well known artist in both watercolor and metal sculpture. Her paintings have been featured on the covers of two national magazines. Her sculptures have been spotlighted in such magazines as Better Homes and Garden's, Special Edition's as well as The Garden Shed, Accessory Merchandising and Home Decor.
